The Road Towards Disaster Resilient Communities

The training enhanced the capacity of the local government units (LGUs) at the barangay level to adapt, mitigate and prepare for disaster. With this training the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) were expected to come up with their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) Plan. A systematic community cooperation and coordination before, during and after disaster should also be determined and established in the barangay.
The planning workshop in the City of Baguio was divided in four (4) batches at twenty eight (28) barangays per batch with allotted five (5) participants per barangay. It was held in Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) Auditorium on December 4-5 (1st batch), December 11-12 (2nd batch), December 13-14 (3rd batch), and December 18-19 (4th batch). A total of 112 barangays only were covered by the activity since the other 16 barangays were previously covered on the activity conducted by the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) on November 2012. One of the highlights of the activity is signing of all the participants in a “pledge of commitment” in building climate adaptive and disaster resilient communities.
